Serving in the role of Construction Manager, Holt was engaged by Pratt Institute for this prestigious assignment, which involved the renovation, restoration and adaptive reuse of this Historic Commercial building.
The client desire was to preserve the historic features of the original building and at the same time introduce “state of the art upgrades” to create a High Tech Architectural School with interdisciplinary resource sharing. Holt completed selective demolition of the interior space and fit-out the interior loft to service a variety of Pratt’s graduate programs. General classrooms, art studios, computer classrooms, facility offices, lounges, and a photo lab are all anchored by a new library. Our work also involved a complete upgrade of electrical and HVAC systems, along with all data and communication wiring. The basement excavation presented a unique challenge as it was adjacent to the “street vaults” and NYC Subway System. The project duration was nine months and created 64,000 SF of education space, along with a private lobby that creates a street level presence complementing adjacent retail tenants
