Dominican College Gymnasium & Fitness Center Expansion
Dominican was in need of additional space to accommodate new clubs and programs for their athletic department along with an updated fitness center geared towards students and alumni, while also reducing cost of construction. To accomplish this, Holt collaborated with Dominican (In which we have completed multiple projects) to create cost effective alternatives for finishes and layouts to accommodate the multi-use gymnasium.
The lower level fitness room is equipped with state-of-the-art resistance and cardio equipment, multipurpose aerobics room, spin cycle machines, athletic administration offices, restrooms and garage/storage area. The upper level is home to an NCAA regulation basketball/volleyball court and collegiate team storage rooms. The ceiling houses six motorized basketball hoops and 2 motorized batting cages.
Holt reduced the risk to students, faculty and construction workers by enforcing stringent safety procedures including increasing sizes of existing emergency exits and barricading parking areas for staging while keeping the original gymnasium opened to students.
Holt’s approach was able to deliver the project on-budget and on-time with staff ecstatically pleased that this was the first time non-athletic members were utilizing the gymnasium.
Holt understands that higher education projects require a specialized level of knowledge and often include the integration of complex renovation within occupied environments. Holt works collaboratively with the owner and architect in developing detailed plans that allow faculty and the student body to learn, grown and go home safely every day.
