Holt Construction was selected as the Construction Manager for the Orange County Government Center, located on Main Street in Goshen, New York.
In 2014, final plans were created to restore the building with partial demolition to make way for a new addition. The building sustained massive water damage through the years specifically from Hurricane Irene in 2011. The building is also considered a centerpiece and monument to the brutalist design style created by Architect Paul Rudolph. This called for the building to sustain the original style but bring the entire structure up-to-code with modern safety and construction standards including compliance with ADA or the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The project included stripping the building down to posts and beams as Holt systematically removed portions of the outside walls on an as-needed basis to remove material from the interior. Asbestos removal was completed in a safe and efficient manner, while the construction process included; the rehabilitation of Division One and three buildings, with the demolition of Division Two. The plan called for the construction of an addition to the Division three site and the centerpiece of the government center, the new state-of-the-art Grand Jury Room.
Special care was taken to modernize the site while taking into consideration the history of the unique architectural design it brought to the city. The interior still resembles the original center with a vintage/retro style utilizing the same orange accents and brutalist design. Special processes were utilized to create the updated façade which resembles the original structure but is better equipped to handle the changing seasons.
