LaGuardia East End Substation

Located outside of the secure area within Terminal C, Holt constructed the foundation in addition to underground utility work, which would eventually house a generating station on premise for the Port Authority of NY/NJ.

Construction included; 210 18” tapertube piles driven approximately 100’ within multiple locations required close coordination with the Port Authority to locate and work around live conduits within the surrounding areas. Installation of all conduit duct bank and structural pile caps with grade beams was installed. Holt utilized third party entities such as One Call to identify underground utilities that were not registered on the original schematics.

The site was located on a high water table with many older conduits submerged and required draining. Traffic was also diverted as the airport required additional work within heavily trafficked areas. To mitigate safety, in-depth Electrical Hazards Awareness Training was given to everyone on site.
