National Railroad Passenger Corp. Fan Room #1, Penn Station

This project was completed in 150 calendar days, with an aggressive schedule.

The entire Fan Room’s enclosure was demolished and replaced. This included the steel framing, cast-in-place concrete slab and masonry walls additions to the site. New waterproofing at the slab and new floor drains was also installed. The existing fans were left in place during the reconstruction for re-use. The existing louvers (2x) and the existing door/frame was removed and saved for re-installation.

Great attention was maintained for passenger safety and minimizing service interruptions. A platform and “cocoon” was installed below and around the Fan Room before any demolition or construction work began. With the exception of the installation of the platform/ cocoon itself, all work was done out of sight for convenience and safety.
