United Airlines Wide-Body Hangar

Holt Construction was hired by United Airlines to build the 81,000 SF wide-body hangar to service their newest fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

United required support for the airline’s new wide-body aircraft, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350, which will utilize Newark Airport. This hangar would also expand United’s maintenance capability for wide-bodies by 33 percent. Due to Holt’s vast experience at the airport and previous success working with United, Holt was selected to provide comprehensive logistics planning and overall construction services for the Hangar.

Included in the build-out were state-of-the-art pop up pits, each containing a 400 Hertz power system, along with preconditioned air and air starts. The system also provided clean power to the aircraft while being serviced and while digital controls are tested. The site also provided new low-level high-expansion foam systems among other essential utilities.

Sustainable design and materials were utilized including LED lighting and HVAC energy efficient systems, translucent wall panels for increased natural light, along with low flush and low flow water fixtures.

The facility is an asset to United’s operations, allowing for improved maintenance and reliability of the aircraft while also maintaining the highest levels of safety and providing a superior workplace for their employees.
