Bus Holdroom Expansion

Newark, NJ

Holt Construction was selected by the client to spearhead plans on expanding the airline’s bus service facilities located at EWR International Airport.

Taking lead as construction manager, Holt took part in collaborative efforts to materialize an efficient inter-terminal bus service to support the leading airline’s current and future operations. The construction and renovation consisted of the inter-terminal bus hold room and busing structure which connects passengers from Terminal C to A and B. The new expansion required extensive ground improvement, utilizing drilled shaft “piles”. A new steel structure was erected joining up to the existing terminal building to expand on the existing hold room. An elevator and dual escalators were constructed for passengers to access the inter-terminal busing area. Permanent walls were removed to increase the seating capacity, while the bus area at Operations Level was upgraded to include new canopy panels, paint, MEP relocation and the escalators. In addition to the hold room, a new retail shop was integrated into the expansion with signage, HVAC, refrigeration and millwork.
