Canopy Replacement

New York, NY

Holt Construction as general contractor completed the new canopy for the client outside of their landmark building.

The general scope of work included the installation of a glass canopy on an existing landmark building, while maintaining the aesthetic and structural integrity. To support the canopy, Holt upgraded the building’s sewar connection and storm water management system to handle the additional drainage of the canopy. As the building was fully occupied and the work was being completed at the entrance, Holt completed the work within the early hours and the weekend while protecting the pedestrians below with an extensive sidewalk shed and utilizing safety personnel when necessary.

As this was a landmark historical building composed of two separate joined structures, one wood-framed and the other steel and concrete framed, required custom retrofitting to ensure the addition of the canopy would not compromise the integrity of the structure. The glass was imported from Asia and carried a significant lead time, Holt overcame this obstacle by completing all interior work and steel work ahead of the glass delivery.
