As the General Contractor for this project, which was constructed inside an active substation with voltages from 34.5kV to 765kV for public and private clients, Holt initiated site development services with temporary environmental controls such as fencing installed at the site.
The new equipment installed at the station included substation security fence, steel structures, circuit breakers, transformers, capacitor banks, and control buildings. After the equipment was installed, a finish layer of crushed stone (typically 6 inches deep) was installed over the entire station up to the base of the structure foundations. The construction included the installation of a new substation house for the new switch gear. As this was 100 year+ substation, original plans did not account for all underground wiring which required hand excavation. The support piles had to be driven and an extensive underground electrical conduit duct bank design was installed. In addition to serving as the General Contractor, Holt provided turnkey services including project management, procurement, quality assurance/quality control, testing/commissioning and final job close-out.
