Holt was the Construction Manager for this Design-Build, two-level fitness center adjoining to an existing college gymnasium (which Holt originally renovated years prior).
Dominican College needed additional space to accommodate new clubs and programs for their athletic department along with an updated fitness center geared towards students and alumni, while also reducing cost of construction. To accomplish this, we collaborated with Dominican (In which we have completed multiple projects) to create cost effective alternatives for finishes and layouts to accommodate the multi-use gymnasium.
The lower-level fitness room is equipped with state-of-the-art resistance and cardio equipment, multipurpose aerobics room, spin cycle machines, athletic administration offices, restrooms, and garage/storage area. The space — which is four times larger than the former room — features 30 pieces of cardio equipment and an aerobics room with spin classes, Zumba lesson and dance team practices. The upper level is home to an NCAA regulation basketball/volleyball court and collegiate team storage rooms. The ceiling houses six motorized basketball hoops and two motorized batting cages.
Holt enforced stringent safety procedures including increasing sizes of existing emergency exits and barricading parking areas for staging while keeping the original gymnasium opened to students.
Holt’s approach was able to deliver the project on-budget and on-time with staff ecstatically pleased that this was the first-time nonathletic members were utilizing the gymnasium.
