In need of a massive overhaul to the mechanical systems, doors and façade within their iconic hangars, Holt Construction was selected to complete this large-scale modification project.
The hangars required specialized equipment to lift and taxi the jets inside the hangar. The completed modification and renovation remedied the situation by expanding the clearance for the aircraft, negating the use of specialized equipment.
The scope of work included dismantling the original hangar doors, which were then replaced with the new 170’ wide and 35’ high Vertical-Lifting fabric doors. In order to stabilize the roof, as the team worked on dismantling the original steel trusses to make way for the new doors, the team utilized shoring towers which were constructed in place and dismantled after the doors were installed. The hangar’s original mechanics were also dismantled, making way for a new electrical and motor system which would accommodate the new doors. As construction continued throughout the winter, the team constructed a 60 sq. ft. heat wall creating a barrier that would help maintain a conducive work environment by keeping the hangar at optimal temperatures.
