In-line Baggage T-C Facility

Newark, NJ

Holt Construction was selected to serve as construction manager for their new state-of-the-art baggage handling system at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Extensive phasing and coordination with U.S. Customs, TSA, and the client was required for this project to meet milestones and critical path dates. It became evident during the process that the existing international inbound systems could not be maintained without at least two of the belts being relocated or phased construction of the structure. A value engineering exercise created room in the budget to relocate the inbound feed belts permanently as a first step; avoiding the need for relocation. Terminal areas that were occupied by scanning systems were restored as passenger circulation and airline operations areas. The Holt team was able to integrate the new baggage handling system, without service interruption to the airline or passengers, to the existing baggage system.
