Southwest Airlines engaged Holt Construction to renovate their existing operations in Terminal, Concourse B of LaGuardia Airport.
Holt Construction Corp was selected by Southwest Airlines to complete a renovation project that aimed to improve the existing airport operations spaces in Terminal B, Concourse B at LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
Southwest Airlines, the world’s largest low-cost carrier, desired an update to their operations space with the capacity to house several offices, forming a cohesive unit within the terminal. The new operations space was to house offices for management, operations areas for flight ops and services, in addition to locker rooms, restrooms, and break areas for all staff.
The entirety of the project included exploratory work, partial demolition, and design consultation with the design team on a continuous basis. Holt’s services were utilized in both pre-construction and construction phases of the project. Throughout the project there were many existing conditions, scope changes, and phasing hurdles to overcome. Construction was performed during regular hours and could not impact any active operations for the airline or passengers. Holt was able to overcome challenges that called for an expert approach, as planning updates were constantly being planned. The relatively unfamiliar and active environment such as the job site required an experienced team, familiar with airport operations and conditions, to be engaged with the design team to facilities a successful construction project.
