Holt Construction successfully completed the comprehensive phased renovation of an occupied infusion suite in Sparta, New Jersey. The project was carefully planned and executed to enhance the patient care environment while allowing the existing infusion center to remain fully operational throughout construction.
The renovation was completed in three carefully coordinated phases. Phase One included the construction of approximately 50% of the new infusion suite, followed by Phase Two, which focused on the new reception and waiting areas. Phase Three completed the remaining portion of the infusion treatment space. This phased approach enabled uninterrupted clinical operations while minimizing impacts to patients, caregivers, and hospital staff.
Given the occupied nature of the facility, infection prevention, patient safety, and operational continuity were the highest priorities throughout construction. Holt performed all demolition activities during off-hours, evenings, and weekends to eliminate disruptions caused by noise and vibration. Extensive temporary protection measures were implemented to isolate construction activities from active patient care areas, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients receiving treatment.
To comply with Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) requirements, Holt established a dedicated Ante Room (ANI) equipped with HEPA-filtered negative air machines, sticky walk-off mats, and worker decontamination stations, including HEPA vacuums for cleaning personnel and equipment before exiting the construction zone. Construction personnel utilized a separate entrance from patients and hospital staff, further reducing the potential for cross-contamination and maintaining strict infection control protocols throughout the project.
The newly renovated infusion center features high-quality architectural finishes and extensive custom millwork integrated throughout the space. The completed project includes six private infusion treatment bays, a new patient restroom, modern reception and waiting areas, centralized nurse stations, and dedicated clean and soiled utility rooms designed to improve workflow efficiency and enhance the overall patient experience.
One of the project’s greatest challenges and ultimately its greatest success, was the execution of the complex phased construction sequence within a fully occupied healthcare environment. Through detailed planning, close collaboration and disciplined daily coordination, Holt successfully maintained uninterrupted clinical operations while safely delivering each phase of the renovation. The project was completed on schedule with no disruption to adjacent hospital operations, demonstrating Holt’s expertise in delivering complex health science renovations within active medical facilities while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and patient care.
