Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse JFK

Responsive to passengers’ needs at every turn, this Virgin Airlines Club earned more than ten awards for design excellence.

Holt Construction was selected to build the new Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The lounge provides space for the airline’s first-class passengers. The lounge features a variety of seating and dining areas, all surrounded by perforated – aluminum walls. Stainless steel rods from a sculptural divider between the lounge’s bar and the rest of the venue, and the ceiling plane is punctuated by a series of metal cylinders of varying lengths. The project was completed ahead of schedule and received the Metal Mag award in July 2012 for best interior hospitality project in 2012.

The Clubhouse functions as a hybrid private members club, boutique hotel lobby, restaurant, and chic bar. Bound on two sides by expansive views over the jet ways, aircraft and a direct view of the iconic TWA terminal, the lounge areas are organized by acoustical levels and temporal commitment. Acoustical zones: Activities that require less time are closer to the entry, those that require more are furthest from the entry.

The project was completed ahead of schedule.

The Club has won more than ten awards including the 2015 Society of American Registered Architects National Design Award, the 2014 AIA New York Design Awards for Interiors, the 2014 AIAI New York Archtober Building of the Day, among other national and international accolades.
